Commuting to work using my bike

July 30th, 2014

Nice weather and plenty of time, got up early and headed for work on my bike. When at Gan I decided to go where I never had been before. Assuming that there should be gravel roads/tracks/single tracks between Gan and Hvalstjern I turned right and headed of into the woods. As usual, at some point I should have turned right but I did not, therefore the gravel road which shrunk into a single track later shrunk into almost no track, see pictures below. But no problem due to the dry conditions.

Must explore the tracks there at a later point.

All in all a very good morning, 56 kilometers and almost two and a half hour on the bike, like everyday should have been (but can't)

Total Body Crossramp to Tom Petty

July 29th, 2014

Going to work really early this week, spending the first hour in the gym. Today I did not feel for the spinning cycle so I decided to try the "Total body crossramp"-thing. Strange kinda device, but it does not give me pain in the legs so once in a while it can be ok. Anyhow, spent the time listening to the new album Hypnotic Eye by Tom Petty. A bit to easy listening while doing exercise, but I might be listening to it several times.

Thunderbolts and lightning, very very frightening

July 28th, 2014

Yesterday afternoon there was a thunderstorm and one of the lightning caused a fire to start just about one kilometer from where we live. Together with the local fire department the neighbors headed of to extinguish the forest fire. Luckily it was just a small fire, the lightning had struck a pine tree and the fire had started at the end of the roots. After this experience we now have a plastic container with almost 1000 liters of water standing ready until the dry period has ended.

Behind Jens Erik you can see the pine tree where the lightning struck.

And yes, the title of the post is a reference to Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.

Spinning to Braid - No Coast

July 28th, 2014

Picked randomly from the rock category in Wimp solely based on the length of the album fitting the time I had available. Did I enjoy it? Somewhat like easy listening, will not add it to my list of favorite albums.

HSE for employers

Hearing, sight and mouth and then add extra light, HSE is always taken care of at home.

A present from one of the cats

July 17th, 2014

Found outside on the doormat. Good to know that our cats are perfect terminators. That was actually the fourth trophy in just two days.

And by the way, it never fails, it makes Elin scream each time.

A room with a view

July 15th, 2014

As long as your name is not Mrs. Richards and you insist on having a room with a (sea-)view I would recommend booking room 1920 at Villa Norangdal, the very same room we had last week. From that room you will wake up to a beautiful view of the narrow valley Norangsdalen.

And if you are not familiar with the name Mrs. Richards, spend 2 minutes watching this clip from Fawlty Towers

Being a handyman

July 15th, 2014

One of the stones on our stair came loose so I have to fix it. First removing the old mortar before applying new one. Having the proper equipment made that job easy.

Plan was to fix it at once, but off course at one spot the heating cable had been a bit misplaced - so I did cut it. So now waiting for the electrician to help me out fixing it before I can apply new mortar and once again fasten the stone.

Clouds rolling by

Once in a while there are some benefits staying up late. Picture taken a couple of days ago.

Cargo securing

July 13th, 2014

Had to secure some cardboard boxes loaded on the trailer a couple of days ago, using whatever I had available. 24 boxes of Nordlands Pils did the trick.

Test drive: BMW 800 GS Adventure

July 5th, 2014

Got to ride the BMW 800 GS Adventure here the other day, and what a comfortable ride. Would I want one? Maybe, might be a bit to big for my commuting needs, and I would guess my adventure needs so small that it won't be worth spending all that money on this bike. In the video below he wraps up that you do not need to pay a lot of money to get a bike that is heavy and good on the high way. But, on the other hand, why let common sense decide?

Here's a video of the bike

Running scared?

July 5th, 2014

My son Iver, is he running scared, or is he simply just very happy since he has got new swimming trunks?

Roy Orbison on the other hand, he was running scared

No heat in our Ford Mondeo

July 1st, 2014

Yesterday when driving our car for work I did notice that there was no heat. Fearing that I had spend a lot of money I luckily spent one minute on Google before spending any money. Found a post at providing me with the solution.

On the AC

  1. Quickly press "Footwell" and "Off" at the same time
  2. Immediately afterwards (without any delay) quickly press "Auto"
  3. The climate control self test then starts

Had to do it a few times, but suddenly the heat started working again.
