Paternity leave rules!

October 30th, 2008

Yesterday morning when I got up I was really happy that I have my paternity leave now. I looked out of the bathroom window and noticed that the traffic was standing still, almost no moment at all, both on the sideways down at Alnabru and on the motorway. This due to the first snowfall this season and people still using summer tyres. How stupid can they be. Morten has also written something about it, linking to a news article as well.

Better be prepared, water alarm mounted

October 30th, 2008

To get an early warning in case of a water leak I have mounted a water alarm underneath the kitchen sink today. The neighbour downstairs had an accident earlier this year, the pipe to the dish washer leaked, but luckily for him he was home and was able to stop the water from causing a disaster.

I bought it at Clas Ohlson, I guess Kent wish he had been able to join me when I was there, it is by far his favourite shop as I know :-)

Todays dinner

October 29th, 2008

Just had to blog about the dinner I made today, mostly to remember the recipe myself for later. But also to tip you all, my reqular readers about this recipe. I must really recommend the tropical sauce.

First, the actual dinner, Pork Fillet, no rocket science
Second, the sauce, tropical sauce

Rips = redcurrant. The measure SS = table spoon. TS = tea spoon. Stk = one piece.

Gigantic shopping cart

October 28th, 2008

On Saturday I was doing communal work when my sports club, Sportsklubben Rye, had the yearly Rye-fest. My duty was to buy the beer for the dinner, 90 persons and 2 bottles each, I needed a very large shopping cart. OBS Løren to the rescue. The cart is almost as big as Espens Toyota Yaris.

Yesterday Espen and I was returning the empty bottles. Imagine how heavy the cart was when it was full of beer.

Hellacopters live in concert yet again

October 26th, 2008

This evening, Hellacopters live in concert yet again!!

But, it is in Stockholm, but I'm watching it live on MySpace...and it is coooooooool!!! I had to open a beer to fully enjoy the event...because it is rock'n roll!!!

Paternity leave is starting

October 26th, 2008

I've now started my paternity leave so for six weeks starting from tomorrow it will be me and Anders ruling the house. Plenty of Hellacopters, AC/DC played loud the whole day and other cool activities.

Which HDMI-cabel should you choose?

October 25th, 2008

Without doubt the cheapest one. Kinda funny, TV2 Hjelper Deg did a test, and no one, not even the sales person from Hifi Klubben could spot any difference what so ever. Note that it also included a test by a professional consultant with the special equipment

And we have still not even bought a flat-screen tv :-)

What is considered a valid ID?

October 22nd, 2008

When using the remote desktop-tool in Windows it says here in Norwegian that when I connect I will be asked for my id. I'm just wondering if my drivers license will be valid, or maybe I need my passport. Since I don't have my passport with me, I guess that is the reason for the server not responding.

So much we do not need at all!

October 21st, 2008

Microsoft patents speech censoring, why on earth would we need it, unless you are China or a dictator in some not-good-to-live-in-country. It is supposed to be possible to use it real time as well. As it is said in this article M$ even claims that the listener experience is supposed to be better when F-words are removed from music. Imagine Denis Leary's Asshole with this filter enabled..."I'm just a regular Joe,... I like ****...., I'm an *******, he's an ****, I **** on the seat..."

Stuck on the subway

October 21st, 2008

Yesterday I was late for work. When in then tunnel between Jernbanetorget and Stortinget the power disappeared and the train stopped about 10 metres from the platform. No help for me since I was sitting in the second car. Not sure how, but in front of us there was one of the new MX3000 which had power. It reversed back to my train and connected to it. Then we could walk all the way through our train, into the MX3000 and then out on the platform at Stortinget. Yet another dramatic incident in my life ended good :-)

Making popcorn

October 18th, 2008

Yesterday evening me and Anders was home alone. After I had put him to bed, I decided to make myself popcorn. The recipe is quite simple, fill the bottom of the pan with oil, turn the heat on. When it is very hot, fill the bottom of the pan with corn until it is all covered. Wait, shake once in a while. So I did, and as you can see I'm living on the edge. 10 more corns, and disaster might had happened.

The lid was a bit lifted by the popcorns, but disaster did not happen.

But, after I had removed the lid, three corns suddenly popped...scary!

Hellacopters in concert

October 17th, 2008

I was paralyzed
as i opened up my bloodshot eyes
do i really wanna know
where i've been or where i've put my nose

Yesterday Anders, Espen, Loy, Bendik and I went to see the farewell concert to Hellacopters. Pure rock'n roll, very good concert I must say!! They got on stage, and immediately started playing. After four songs Nicke said "Tjena Norje!" (Hello Norway), then right on to the next song. How cool is that, no chitchat, just rock'n roll!!

5 out of 6 in Aftenposten

Bendik caught by the camera twice, and pictures from the concert. Click on the picture to enlarge

In Glitnir we trust

October 14th, 2008

- Jeg føler at bunnen var på forrige fredag, sier Thomas Lande, meglersjef i Glitnir Securities, til E24.

Earlier this year

He guesses and feels, not alone doing that the past few weeks. Soon Christmas, so now we can start wishing as well

And their channel at Youtube

I could not imagine

October 9th, 2008

...that I would be a fan of a band playing in the Junior Eurovision Contest, but The Blacksheeps is in fact cool, mostly due to the girl singing. Lydverket went to visit them, and recorded a video of them playing a cover version of Gold Lion by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Impressing, in my opinion she sings it even better live than Yeah Yeah Yeahs does. Make up your own opinion at Youtube

For those who did not know it, they won MGP Junior with 70.000 votes, that's the double of what band #2 did get! You can listen to their song "Oro Jaska Beana" at http://nrksuper...

Med Pisk og Champagne - Fabrice D'Almedia

October 8th, 2008

My latest book, "High Society in the Third Reich" by Fabrice D'Almeida. The book is the first systematic study of the relations between German high society and the Nazis, and therefore I found it a bit hard to read. But even though, very interesting. Read more about it at

Cleaning up pictures on my cell phone

October 6th, 2008

Some pictures from last weekend. On Friday I went out to Vestreng on my bike, when I spotted these three elks, or moose as it is called in the U.S, at Fetsund. The next day I had to move the lawn, but before that I had to remove a lot of apples that was lying underneath one of the apple trees. I used the wheelbarrow and left them out on the field to the elks to eat. They might get drunk :-)

I then started to move the lawn. Plenty of leafs had fallen down, the picture showing the before and after sequence when I drove the lawn mover over them.
