Crazy farmers up north

July 31st, 2007

Read the article in my local newspaper from back home
Farmers stopped the train to have a ceremony for their dead sheeps. How crazy can that be?? I thought it was their responsibility to guard their animals...

02.08.07: An update due to my mothers comment. Check out the article
There is something called "gjerdeplikt". Bad article in Rana Blad, not referring to the reason for their ceremony...

Mum - take a look at the picture

July 31st, 2007

Look, Alex Rosen does it as well!!

My mother does not like when I do like that with my mouth...

The Police - The Police

July 30th, 2007

Sat listening to a cover of Every Breath you take and realized that I do not have anything with The Police, so straight to I went!

A bit strange, but if I google "The Police" I get as the best hit, but by going via Wikipedia I found their official website

We saw Robert Plant live!!

July 30th, 2007

Have totally forgotten to add a post in my blog - when in Split on vacation we got to see Robert Plant live at the harbor of Split. And would you guess what, he ended the concert with playing Whole Lotta Love, the old Led Zeppelin song...and it was like hearing the old Led Zeppelin records. It was a great moment in life, I'm really happy to have experienced, not Led Zeppelin, but at least Robert Plant singing Led Zeppelin, it is almost as being back in the seventies.

And then, I must admit that the Robert Plant stuff sounded quite good as well, I do believe I need to buy some Robert Plant solo albums as well...

Dum Dum Boys - Ludium

I've updated my skin

July 28th, 2007

I've done a small tweak to my skin. Ok, I've removed the links to those people who actually made my skin and the blog and so forth, but then again, it is still there, but as a comment in the code. But, what I've done is to link to people I know and their blogs. For now I've linked to Kent, my friend from the university college, Roy (or Loy) who I've spent three weeks with in the same car back in 2003 and at last Marius whom I know from work. See at the bottom of the page...

31.07: I forgot Hans Petter, so now I have added a link to his blog as well

Towing an old truck at Vestreng

July 28th, 2007

Elins father, Anders, has bought a new combine harvester and since it is so big we needed to move the old spare part truck. It was a tricky project since the truck has no gear stick and ... no breaks. The way to do it was to manually get in a gear, that is what he is doing on the first picture. By using the clutch we could get it to stop.

Click read more ...

When out on the tarmac the truck started, to stop he had to drive it a bit out in the ditch. Due to the fact that the gear he had placed it in (it is very hard to know which gear you have without the stick) he was not able to get out of the ditch. So I had to push it up, then he steered down the road to the farm. Downhill it went...very fast...and the uphill, it stopped since he was not able to shift down. He had to back out on the field, therefore I had to tow him once again, hence the next picture.

On the road

At last, almost there. Now we only had to roll in to the garage...

My blog is updated

July 27th, 2007

I've once again successfully updated my blog, from 1.9.3 to 1.10.2. As always it went just smooth, thanks to Franqois Planque and all the others.

Beers tried when at holiday

July 27th, 2007

Got to try a some new types of beer this summer, they where:

Platan - got this one from our landlady at Korcula, Paulina. It is a Czheck beer. It might be that Platan is the brewery and that the actual beer is Jedenact

Click More to find out the other beers I tried

Karlovacka - beer from Croatia

Ozujsko - beer from Croatia The best Croatian beer we thought...

Zlatorog - beer from Croatia There is a Stella behind the bottle as well, that one was Elins...

Bavaria - beer from Holland, really good, had not tried it before

Sarajevska 0% - the only beer without alcohol. This due to the fact that we had a day trip to Bosnia, so when served at a Muslim restaurant we do not get alcohol. But, the beer was quite ok...

Michael Rasmussen - shut up!!

July 27th, 2007

Read this article where a lot of Danish people supports Michael Rasmussen and feels sorry for him being thrown out of Radobank. But, as said in this article in VG he does very little to actually prove that he was in Mexico. And as the Mexican embassy in Denmark said "it is quite easy to prove it, since you have to fill out some forms to enter the country".

So Michale - the chicken - Rasmussen, please shut up right now or at least bring some hard evidence to the table, which by the way I assume you could not provide your team with, since they kicked you out - and if no hard evidence is available, please sell your bike, sell your cycling clothes, sell everything and start doing something else...because without evidence I hope that you are finished for good!!!

And by the way, saying that you have been tested negative for dope 15 times during the Tour De France does not prove that you are clean, you of all should know, that is why you have to provide WADA with your wear abouts at all time. And that is why the Danish Cycle Association have expelled you from their team, since you continue to break these rules.

Back from holiday

July 26th, 2007

Back from two weeks in Croatia. We have been to Dubrovnik, Split and Korcula. We have had a day trip to Mostar in Bosnia, we have sea paddled and been to the beach nearly every day...

Croatia was nice, and we saw very few signs of the war from a bit more then 10 years ago. But we visited a war photo exhibition, which reminded us about the war that had been, and also plenty others. Take a look at their website

My homepage has also had two days of down time due to some domain hosting issues. It is now solved as you might have figured out since you are reading this., my web hotel fixed this in just a day.

Tomm Kristiansen - Afrika, en vakker dag

July 26th, 2007

Last book I've read, written by Tomm Kristiansen "Africa, en vakker dag". Bought it as a follow up on the book about Kongo. It gives you a broad and good view of the many issues Africa are struggling with today (and before).

Still - raining

July 8th, 2007

We went out to Nesodden earlier today and I took my bicycle so I could use it to get back home. Great plan, had it just not been for the rain. About 30 minutes before I started it started raining cats and dogs. I must admit that I'm looking forward to our vacation - two weeks without my bicycle. Have spent almost 15 hours this week riding either my MTB or my road bike, its fun :-)

Øyern rundt with Espen

July 7th, 2007

Espen and I spent a bit more than 5 hours on our bicycles cycling all the way around Øyern today. All in all almost 150 kilometers. I'm a bit tired right now, and Espens knee is hurting.

We passed Solbergfoss power station where we stopped for five minutes

Bad weather

July 5th, 2007

It started to rain quite heavily, as Elin said, if we had lived two hundred years ago we would have thought that it was the end of days...

New cellphone - Nokia 5500 Sport

July 5th, 2007

My old 5140 have annoyed me quite much the past few week, turning itself of every once and then and leaving me with the need to take the battery out to unlock it, and then use the charger to switch it on. The use of the charger was needed because the on/off switch did not work after the phone had been in the washing machine last year.

So I bought a 5500 sport, wanted a phone with a bit more functionality than my old one. So have had it since Tuesday, and it has...guess what...turned itself of twice. By using the code *#0000# I'm able to check the OS version - currently V04.03. I will try to upgrade the os, hoping that will do the trick.

Anyhow, when I got it I looked for the auto lock, just to realize that it had no auto lock. I had to download it and install it as just another program. If you ever need it, do a search for AutoLock_v1.1_for_S60_3rd_ed.SISX. I have a fear that Symbian sucks bigtime!!!

King Leopold's Ghost: - Adam Hochschild

July 5th, 2007

King Leopold's Ghost: a story of greed, terror, and heroism in Colonial Africa or "Kong Leopolds arv" in Norwegian, my latest book. Such stories we never did learn in school, but really should have. By reading this book you get a much better understanding of the story of Africa the past 100 years. I won't try to retell it here, I would just recommend the book to you for sure!

ICE Your Cell Phone For Safety

July 4th, 2007

Store your loved ones on your cell phone as ICE

ICE is the brainchild of British paramedic Bob Brotchie, who told The Early Show co-anchor Julie Chen Tuesday the idea came to him "just from reflecting on difficulties I've had in obtaining information about patients. The vast majority of people don't carry emergency contact details or next-of-kin details, but the vast majority of people carry cell phones.

So now Elin is stored as "ICE, Elin" not meaning that she is ice cold or something like that :-)
